The Apple & Bee bag collection grows for 2010. Known for their distinctive prints and earthy textures, the label has sweet options for almost every eventuality. Fashion bags include sassy totes, beautiful embroidered purses, retro-inspired bowling bags and practical overnighters. The beauty range feature make-up bags and pencil cases plus nifty foldout travel items. Kids get bright satchels and there is a comprehensive baby range of mats, sleep bags and totes.
Earth-friendly construction from IMO certified cotton, bamboo, hemp, calico and recycled PET plastic make up the Apple & Bee collection. All pieces are shipped in reusable calico (unbleached, unprocessed cotton) bags. Apart from a small blurb on the calico, the label prints no other promotional material. Apple & Bee is made in Hong Kong and China by small, family-owned manufacturers “with very good working conditions” and the label is committed to a carbon neutral existence. Head office operates off renewable wind and solar power sources and all travel and shipping in the company is offset by credits purchased through Climate Friendly.
Besides donating to Coastcare, the label has actually established the Bee Foundation to help the plight of their namesake. Honey bees support food crops and ecosystems around the world, but Colony Colapse Disorder (CCD) is causing them to vanish…and no one quite knows why. The Bee Foundation raises funds and awareness about CCD.

CCD is endemic to the Americas and is not present in Australia.
The widely held belief among apiarists is that CCD is caused by the myriad of chemicals and synthetic materials used in commercial beekeeping.
Thanks Leah. Yes, from what we understand pesticides are one of a number of contributing factors to CCD (admittedly, it’s not our area of expertise). Still, we applaud any label that puts resources back into helping the planet, be it here or abroad.
