The whole not using plastic bags thing is great in theory but it’s fairly reliant on one actually remembering to take an alternative to the shops. Bravo if you’re that well planned but for those who aren’t, SAKitToMe is a godsend. It kills a Coles bag for aesthetics but you don’t have to look at it when you don’t need it—the bag folds in on itself to become a nifty little pouch (10cm x 4.5cm in case you’re wondering) which in turn clips onto a keyring or inside a handbag, poised for action.
In full flight, the bag is sturdy and water resistant and fortunately there are a bunch of prints and colours outside the usual Eco-Bag Green. It’ll accommodate about three plastic grocery bags worth of stuff without too much drama. The bag has been given something of a road test of late and the concept is so simple (and effective), it’s borderline genius. So long as you remember to re-instate it to said keyring or handbag after use.
Made from polyester, SAKitToMe bags are $8.95 each from EnviroTrend, a company started by two Australian women who clearly had jack of cursing the pile of shopping bags lying dormant in their kitchen cupboard every time they got to the check out. Curse no more…
