Designer Lisa Gorman’s artfully executed collections mix the ultra-girlie with the utilitarian. Baggy pleated trousers, flouncy dresses, pleats and ruffles are all there to be had, along with the occasional, deliciously retro influence—given a modern edge, naturally. Texture, print and colour are always key, with arty splashes next to geometric designs, all haphazardly mixed in the most delightfully erratic manner. The label offers up shoes and bags to complete the look.
Since starting life as a range of organics basics, gorman has evolved, adding a mainline collection that also incorporates sustainable fibres where possible. The organic capsule range has doubled accounting for 20% of the label’s output. Made in Vietnam, gorman organic pieces are made entirely under one roof—from milling to finishing—to minimise garment miles.
Since the label’s inception in 1999, gorman has reduced garment packaging by 90% and all shopping bags are 100% recycled paper. For every gorman Green & Serene tee sold, $5 is donated to Friends of the Earth. The collection includes customised designs by Melbourne artist Beci Orpin, individually released throughout the year. The label also donates old stock to Seconds To Give for distribution to impoverished villages in the Philippines.

I went down to Melbourne in early June and stayed in Chapel Street. My eyes were drawn to the window display in both your shops in this street. I had never before came across Gorman. I was so excited to see a label that finally understands the relationship between colour and prints. I usually buy 2-3 garments and pull them apart to get the look Gorman has in one. well done love it.
