NEW: Karla Spetic SS10-11

I must confess, it took ages to update Karla Spetic’s designer profile. Choosing which images from her new collection to include—or rather, which to leave out—was almost impossible… it is all simply stunning.

Centre, as the collection is named, takes its cues from Australia’s indigenous people, illustrated through a rich colour story reflecting the hues of the outback. Graphic prints take a more literal approach, depicting outback scenery in all its lush harshness.

Spetic herself immigrated to Australia from Croatia as a child and has taken her own experiences of adapting to a new culture and connected it with what she describes as the vulnerability and innocence of the Aborigines.

Softly draping fabric, textured detail and sequinned embellishment designed to mimic traditional body paint all feature, worked back with tailored, masculine shapes. For the first time, the designer has ventured into accessories, presenting her debut line of shoes, belts and a bag.

I could go on about her beautiful blouses, artfully twisted textiles and fabulous slouchy jumpsuit, but it’s probably best to let the lady herself talk you through the range. Keep an eye out for my exclusive interview with her in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, discover even more beautiful images from the Centre collection (plus more details on the range) in Karla’s designer profile. How big is her eco? You’ll find that in the same place…
