Preview: Plasidapparel SS10/11

A new discovery from RAFW… well, sort of. I’ve known about Plasidapparel for a year or so now since they first launched their collection of cool basics but they debuted at fashion week in the New Generation show. Met up with Justin (one of the young lads behind the label, along with his brother Jonson) after the show on Friday. Impressively, he told me the boys have pulled their production back to Australia, a tough move for any label (it’s not cheap here), let alone one so new.

“We’ve really started to push for eco-sustainable fashion all round,” Justin says. “Around 60% of our ‘essentials’ range—30% of our entire range—is comprised of organic cottons.” The rest of the collection is predominantly all-natural fabrics including silk, wool, Egyptian cotton,  cashmere and bamboo.

The spring summer looks they showed last week had an understated cool—versatile staples teamed with directional pieces. Think light, linen summer trenches and tailoring (pants, shorts, shirting) for guys. For girls, cute playsuits, tank dresses and a funky ripped-up, webbed texture seen on dresses and hoodies.

Chatting to the guys as we speak about getting them onto the HowBigIsYourEco directory—great to see the new generation (literally) of young talent working to support the local industry, not to mention the planet. Again, apologies for the photos…an iPhone and quickly-moving models does not a photographer maketh…
