Looking to the future by reviving the traditions of the past, Shinwa Organics produces a collection of bamboo essentials for babies and kids. Their back-to-basics approach yields beautiful baby wraps that are as soft as cashmere, a selection of towels and washers, sheets, blankets and pyjamas (size 3-5). The gorgeous designs, inspired by oriental watercolours and woodblock prints are hand painted or hand printed with natural pigments from rice, pomegranate, fruits, corn and capsicum. The result is both luxurious and appropriately gentle for babies—bamboo is anti-bacterial for up to 50 washes, anti-static and naturally deodorising. The label also offers a hand knitted bamboo, cashmere and alpaca blanket. Launching internationally in 2009 to great success, Shinwa Organics is now available in Australia, counting Rachael Griffiths and Nicole Kidman as fans.
Designed and made in Australia, Shinwa uses 100% organic bamboo which is mechanically pulped and hand-boiled for softness, not bleached or chemically treated. Grown in chemical free plantations, the bamboo adheres to international organic standard of OCIA/NOP and has the international OEKO TEX Standard 100 certification. Local testing and certification of fabrics and dyes is by CETEC.
Before launch, designers Shareen Beringer and Ky Smith spent a year meeting with various farmers, printers and suppliers to ensure ethical and environmental practices were put into place. The divine packaging used across the collection is created from recycled cardboard. The label opts for sea freight over air where possible and conduct only virtual marketing, eliminating the need for catalogues and business cards. Shinwa will soon announce details of an association with a major charity.
