If, like us, you’re still in denial that summer is history, Trove Tkees organic leather sandals might help you hang on to that warm weather vibe. They’ve proven quite the celeb magnet… count Angelina, Jessica Alba, Rachel Bilson, Lauren Conrad as fans, among others.
The barely-there design and leather finish make for a more individual and infinitely chicer alternative to the omnipresent rubber flip-flop. This impression is certainly helped by the fact that Trove Tkees come in a restrained selection of nude and neutral tones.
Organic leather isn’t something we come across every day, so a hasty online search was in order. Information is scarce and the best explanation we found dated back to 2006: “The hides used are from animals that are organically fed and humanely raised. And secondly, the tanning process uses plant tannins, vegetable tannins or smoke to cure the leather.” (www.greenthinkers.org)
We confess to being a tad surprised there isn’t more organic leather out there. One US supplier’s website (www.organicleather.com, funnily enough) pointed out that the textile “still only exists in very small quantities and is expensive by comparison to regular leather or Eco leather [which means it is organically tanned]“.
Time will tell if organic leather becomes more widely used, but we’ll be keeping an eye out.
Trove Tkees are a US label, available locally at Miijo.
